It’s the bomb, baby!
The last note of Walk Idiot Walk by the Hives has barely rung out and already some heavy drums are taking over the relay. Not doubt about it, it’s the intro to Supersonic by Oasis., which is soon followed by Nirvana’s Smells Like Teen Spirit and a filthy Chemical Brothers track. What a list of classics that are simply calling to belted out loud. Ed, the resident DJ, is here on the decks every Thursday to Saturday, and he doesn’t beat around the bush: the atmosphere is only good because what gets him going is making sure people have a great time. Which means getting them dancing and singing – or possibly both at the same time, to all types of music (even if guitar-led tunes are more present than others). The owner Frédéric Souleyras opened the Bombshell at the beginning of 2015. He wanted to bring something new to Clermont-Ferrand’s night scene (Tuesday to Saturday, from 11pm to 5am), and also get people partying.
Mission accomplished: as soon as you enter the place you immediately find yourself on the dancefloor, surrounded by clubbers aged between 25 and 50, sometimes older, sometime younger. And not only that, you don’t even have to spend a penny to get in! There’s another dancefloor on the upper floor, as well as a smoking room. The latter is fitted with a windowed wall, so you won’t miss a moment of the action - which is pretty important, especially when the Bombshell is hosting one of its gigs. Those who have graced the stage include no other than: The Wedding Present, The Warlocks, The Fleshtones, The Lords of Altamont, Bellrays, Requin Chagrin… They’ve plonked their bass guitars and amps next to the bar, as close to the crowd as possible, delivering some feverish shows. The Bombshell is none other than a rock’n’roll club, through and through.
