Le Bistrot de la Mairie
The king of after work drinks
Clermont-Ferrand’s legendary Bistrot de la Mairie represents the city down to a T: it’s eclectic and welcoming. And so too is the boss, Max, who took over this cult restaurant three years ago, hoping to bring it back to life with a dash of joy and audacity following a few mutedly ambitious years. These days, the Bistrot de la Mairie has so much to offer: free exhibitions from artists coming from all over France; jazz and pop gigs every first and third Thursday of the month; as well as regular DJ sets from varying music lovers passing through. As for the cuisine, the dishes are hearty and incredibly good value (the dish of the day and a dessert is just 13 euros).
Foodies take note: the menu features (amongst other delights) a delicious bone marrow dish and an incredible pork spider steak marinated in lemongrass! The Bistrot de la Mairie is located just in front of, wait for it… The town hall! Regulars include theatre-goers, as well as music and wine lovers too. Catch a gig while perched at the bar of this long and narrow place, or simply savour a beer on the small outdoor terrace. It’s the perfect way to kick the night off.
