It’s a family affair

Feel like you’re amongst family? Well, it’s no coincidence. The Mayerling certainly is a family affair. It’s 2001 and Mrs Solignat first launches the business. In 2016 the story continues, as she passes on the baton to her 31-year-old son Mickaël, as he joins the adventure. The spirit remains the same. Firstly, it has a bistro vibe, as at lunchtime the place becomes a brasserie (the food is fresh, dishes are copious, and the andouillette in white wine is so tender). While at night they serve hot dogs and sharing platters filled with local produce. But there’s also a spirit of open-mindedness too. Sure, the Mayerling is small, making it ideal for meeting new people. But what’s more, a pint is only 3 euros and a mojito 5 euros during happy hour (6 – 10pm). With an offer like that, it’s hard not to refuse the heated terrace for a good part of the evening, or to strike up a conversation with the clientele – which is a mixture of regulars and film lovers spilling out of the Ambiances, the "Art et d’Essai" cinema just opposite.

Their open-mindedness is also extended to the music. While this venue’s soundtrack is more pared-back during the day with some funky sounds, as the sun sets, it’s all change. Indie rock and even electro take over, or whatever takes the fancy of the two owners and the numerous local DJs who takeover the decks (usually come the weekend, roughly twice a month). So whether you’re a foodie, music lover or film fan or you’re simply feeling thirsty (or perhaps you’re all four!), the Mayerling is for you.
